Last week, we wrote about taking care of your feet during vacation. If you recently came back from vacation and you missed that blog post, maybe your feet got exposed to the elements a little more than they normally are. If you forgot to lather your feet in sunscreen, we put together some great ways to get your feet back to feeling great so you can enjoy the rest of summer.
Follow these tips to help your feet stay happy and healthy if they’ve gotten a bit too much sun:
- Aloe – Aloe can help get your feet back to the proper moisture levels after being dried out from the sun. If you have a sunburn, this step is essential! Aloe naturally helps your skin heal. You can use fresh aloe from a plant, or a store-bought aloe gel. Apply it to the tops of your feet and your ankles, letting it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Ice – Often, high temperatures can make our feet swell up. An ice bath can help cool down your feet and ankles. Don’t keep them in there for more than a few minutes though! After the ice bath, run some lukewarm water back over your feet and ankles to warm up again. After that, dry thoroughly and apply some moisturizing lotion.
- Scrub – A gentle scrub on your feet can help remove the dead skin from between your toes and the bottoms of your feet. You can find lots of good scrub recipes online (just make sure they’re from a reputable source) or purchase some nicely scented scrub at a local pharmacy. Afterwards, rinse your feet and dry them thoroughly with a clean towel.
- Massage – Rub the tender parts of your feet with some nice massage oil. Work your way down from toe to heel, then back up from heel to toe. Between rubs, flex and stretch your foot muscles.
After you’ve completed these foot care techniques, just lay back and relax! Prop your feet up for a while and let them naturally heal.
