New Zealand’s University of Otago’s Prof. Lisa Stamp conducted research that focused on goutpatients and their Vitamin C intake. The study found that Vitamin C did not lower urate levels to a ‘clinically satisfactory degree’. The test was conducted for eight weeks.

 “Though Vitamin C may reduce risk of developing gout, our data does not support using Vitamin C as a therapy to lower uric acid levels in patients with established gout,” Prof. Stamp said. While Vitamin C can still lower the risk of developing gout, it is not a method for treating or curing the disease.

According to an analysis by popular shopping site Gilt, shoppers residing in the Sunshine State of Florida wear the highest heels in the nation; followed by Nevada and Arkansas. While the heels-loving women of these states may all agree that wearing high heels makes their feet attractive, there are a few tips they can follow to help keep their feet healthy while still looking good. Women who are interested in maintaining height in their heels should choose a style with a gradual incline that isn’t too steep. To avoid burning pain between the toes, wear shoes with a wider toe box to give your toes some space. Shoes with cushioning in the soles will help absorb the impact of your foot striking the ground, preventing some of the shock from reaching your knees. Stretches such as heel raises and toe stretches can help prevent pain in the foot.

The successful Samaritan’s Feet event, held by Samaritan’s Feet International and Northeastern Indiana Credit Union Chapter (NEICUC), was able to put new pairs of shoes onto three hundred members of the Boys & Girls Club of Fort Wayne and the Euell A. Wilson Center. To help spread and share hope among local children, the event also had the members’ feet washed by volunteers. Samaritan’s Feet’s leaders believe it is possible to show to the youth that they can reach their dreams. NEICUC financed the event, coordinated the logistics, and recruited over 40 volunteers to help run the project. “It is wonderful to see the collaborative efforts that have been done on behalf of the youth in our community,” said Joe Jordan, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne.

To avoid the possible side effects that accompany prescription drugs, natural remedies are available for use to treat Athlete’s foot. Apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil can be rubbed directly onto areas affected by Athlete’s foot. To create a solution to soak your feet in, mix one part white vinegar and two parts warm water. Soak the feet in this for fifteen minutes. Similarly, garlic can be grinded into a fine paste, mixed into a tub of water, and used as a fifteen-minute soak for the feet. Another remedy can be found in neem leaves, which can be boiled in water for ten minutes. After the water has cooled, wash feet twice a day in the solution to treat Athlete’s foot.

Athlete's foot, also known as tinea pedis, can be extremely contagious, and it often infects shower floors, gyms, socks and shoes, and anywhere else feet may come in contact with.
